The Announcement
I love the fact that "heaven" invaded the common everyday life of a young girl in Nazareth. In this piece I got to determine what Mary might have been doing when the angel Gabriel visited her with his life-altering message. I made his hair gold because it was the color closest to the look of fire. Many people think angels are small children fluttering around, playing with harps. In the Bible when one is visited by such a being, they are most often absolutely terrified by his presence. I tried hard in these panels to create a sense of weight and glory in what the angel is proclaiming to Mary. Her humble and accepting attitude toward God's word is, to me, one of the most desireable responses in Scripture. Dimensions: 5.25"x7.75"
